The Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan is currently being interviewed by the Carolina Panthers, the newest NFL team, for their vacant head coaching position.
Panthers executives interviewed Callahan virtually on Thursday morning, completing their ninth interview in a row for the position of head coach, according to a press release. This is the news that Carolina posted:
“The Panthers wrapped up their eighth interview on Thursday afternoon; Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator for the Bengals, was the subject. Since in-person interviews cannot start until Monday, January 22, this one was conducted virtually.
While head coach Zac Taylor calls offensive plays for Cincinnati, Callahan is mostly responsible for building one of the league’s best attacks in recent years and was crucial in quarterback Joe Burrow’s development. In back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022, he assisted in leading the Bengals to an AFC Championship and the Super Bowl, but his performance in 2023 was probably even better.
Despite starting the season with an injured Burrow, having the franchise quarterback play in a few healthy games, and then having a season-ending injury that required backup quarterback Jake Browning to start for half of the season, the Bengals were still among the top 15 offenses in the NFL.
