When the Detroit Lions host the Buccaneers in a Divisional game on Sunday, they could move one step closer to becoming the only franchise without a Super Bowl appearance.
Detroit enters the game as a small favorite and is just two games away from a historic Super Bowl.
When head coach Dan Campbell first came in Detroit in 2021, he described the Lions with one of the greatest comments in NFL history.
“I just feel like this place fit me, man. It really did. Like I belonged. That I literally fit like a glove in Detroit,” head coach Dan Campbell said upon arriving in Detroit in 2021. “The Lions have sucked for 30 years, and they’re always the joke. ‘Oh, the Lions’ and this narrative. “You know what? You need to let these guys know what you’re about, that you understand their own pain.'” Campbell didn’t bring the baggage of losing with him, but he picked it up, musing about what it would be like to win in this place.
Their 30th postseason victory came on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild card round, and history is about to happen again.
Although there has been a lot of animosity and harsh conversation between Lions fans and the team, everyone is hopeful that this Jared Goff-led squad can turn things around.
NFL icons like Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders, and Matthew Stafford—who won the Super Bowl on his first try with the Rams—have all been buried there.
However, the 2023 class appears different. Detroit is in a better mood, and Michigan can have a good time if they can defeat the Buccaneers—and there’s no reason to think they can’t. It may have been coincidental that the Wolverines emerged victorious in the NCAA College Division.
