Jabbar Muhammad, a Washington transfer wide receiver, chooses Oregon over Texas and Alabama.

After visiting Eugene, former Washington Huskies cornerback Jabbar Muhammad chose the Oregon Ducks over the Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide, severely hurting the Texas Longhorns’ hot streak in the transfer portal on Saturday.

Following reports that head coach Steve Sarkisian took the lead in recruiting Muhammad, making him a top priority for the team, and attempting to seal his pledge in order to prevent the lockdown corner taking other visits, Texas looked to be on the verge of securing Muhammad last week.

Rather than canceling his journey to Alabama to see his old head coach Kalen DeBoer, Muhammad traveled to Oregon, where his pledge was successfully obtained.

In all honesty, who will be able to compete? Being among the final few standing is always the goal of a contender. My goal is to make it to the playoffs, the final 12. I want to be a part of a system that allows me to be applied in several contexts.

The 5’10, 183-pound player became one of the nation’s top recovery tacklers after moving to Washington, recording 46 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, and one fumble recovery.

Texas still needs a boundary cornerback, which it will have to fill during the spring transfer window via the transfer site after Muhammad’s miss. Additionally, Oregon defeated Sarkisian and his staff in the recruitment of Muhammad and Houston defensive lineman transfer Ja’Marree Caldwell, preventing the Longhorns from collecting their ideal class of transfers, despite winning a number of high-profile recruits through the portal.
