Andrew Suarez Signs Minor League Contract With Orioles

Reliever Andrew Suárez was signed by the Orioles to a minor league contract, the team announced. If he gets invited to big league camp, that is unknown from the team.

The Cardinals gave the 31-year-old Suárez some major league experience last season. He had signed a minor league contract with St. Louis during the 2022–2023 offseason. It was around the end of July when they chose his contract. Suárez continued, making 13 appearances in relief with little leverage. His ERA was 7.16 over 27 2/3 innings pitched. The former second-round selection was tagged for seven home runs and had a strikeout rate that was far below average at 13.1%.

At the end of the season, St. Louis removed the lefty from their 40-man roster. After clearing waivers, he chose minor league free agency.

Throughout portions of four Triple-A seasons, Suárez has given up 4.27 earned runs per nine. Throughout his 230 1/3 career big league innings, he has a 4.96 ERA; the bulk of those came during his 29 game stint as a starter for the Giants six years ago. Between his seasons at San Francisco and St. Louis, Suárez played two seasons abroad. He performed admirably in the KBO in 2021, but the next season in Japan, he underperformed in a limited sample size.
