One of the female athletes who spoke on Capitol Hill last week to raise awareness of sports injustices was a former beach volleyball player from Oregon.
As part of a coordinated effort by the VOICEINSPORT (VIS) Foundation, Batia Rotshtein, who played at Oregon from 2021–2023, was one of nearly 200 women athletes who attended a briefing on February 1 at the Russell Senate Office Building. This was in advance of the reintroduction of the Fair Play for Women Act on Wednesday, which is National Girls and Women in Sport Day.
read about the injustices that my teammates and I experienced while playing beach volleyball at Oregon,” Rotshtein remarked. “It’s crucial, in my opinion, that the younger generation has the information and self-assurance to stand their ground and demand the treatment they are entitled to.”
Rotshtein is one of six women’s club rowing team members and 26 current and former Oregon beach volleyball players who sued the University of Oregon in December, claiming Title IX discrimination against female athletes and potential athletes was committed.
