KNOXVILLE, Tenn. This season, forward Tamari Key of Tennessee women’s basketball is working her way toward a comeback, but every success story starts with heartache.
“Learning that I won’t be able to play this year, my final year, was difficult. I won’t be able to help that team, which was incredibly good,” Key remarked.
Nine games into her 2022–2023 season, the former All-SEC honoree had her career cut short by medical professionals who found blood clots in her lungs during tests.
She explained, “I just kept thinking positively and was grateful that they caught it because I could have died if they hadn’t.”
The fifth-year athlete also took solace in the knowledge that she wouldn’t have to travel alone.
