CBS Philadelphia – The Philadelphia Phillies will be without an outfielder in Clearwater, Florida when spring training gets underway next week. Outfielder Brandon Marsh underwent arthroscopic debridement surgery on his left knee, the Phillies announced on Friday.
Although Marsh is expected to miss three to four weeks, the Phillies anticipate that he will be ready to play on Opening Day.
With a left knee injury last season, Marsh missed two weeks of action.
Marsh made strides that led to career highs in home runs (12), RBI (60), doubles (25), hits (112), runs (58), on-base percentage (.372), and on-base plus slugging percentage (.829) during his first full season with the Phillies.
The 26-year-old will start for the Phillies either a left fielder or center fielder in 2024, depending on how Johan Rojas does in spring training.
From 2022 to 2023, his righty/lefty splits got better, but not enough to persuade the Phillies that he could play every day. During the last few months of the season, he continued to platoon in the outfield.
In 2023, Marsh’s on-base percentage (OPS) against righties was.864, while his OPS versus lefties was.717.
Rob Thomson, the manager of the Phillies, stated earlier this month that he anticipates Marsh to keep getting better against lefties this
