In response to many women’s accusations of sexual misconduct, the quarterback Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns may face disciplinary punishment. As part of a settlement with the NFL, Watson has consented to an 11-game unpaid ban, a $5 million fine, and the need to receive professional evaluation and treatment.
Watson was originally facing a one-year punishment from the league due to infractions of its personal conduct policy. There have been allegations made against Watson, claiming that during his time with the Houston Texans, he acted inappropriately and used coercion in massage treatment sessions.
Watson got a rich $230 million contract, with $1.035 million set aside for his first season, after being traded to the Cleveland Browns in March. Watson will so lose $632,500 in pay as a result of the ban.
Watson will be able to play again for the Browns on December 4th in Houston, per the conditions of the deal. He will be able to take part in team activities during the week despite the suspension, but he will not be able to watch games from the sidelines.
Watson said he was determined to pursue his professional and personal goals after receiving the payment. He insisted on remaining innocent while stressing the value of looking ahead and carrying on with his career aspirations.
The case’s outcome
Watson will comply with any prescribed treatment program and undergo review by behavioral specialists as part of the agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association.
Before the Browns’ preseason game, Watson apologized and expressed regret for the fallout from the accusations. While maintaining his innocence, he acknowledged that he had to go on with his life and profession.
