JUST IN: The Cincinnati Bengals are projected to be the…

In the 2023 season, the Cincinnati Bengals, despite posting a 9-8 record, found themselves at the bottom of the AFC North, a stark contrast to their division-winning performances in the previous two years. In their pursuit to reclaim the top spot in 2024, the Bengals face a series of challenges and opportunities that could shape their future success.

The most glaring issue for the Bengals is the dire need for improvement in their offensive line, particularly at the offensive tackle position. Quarterback Joe Burrow, a key player for the team, has faced significant challenges with protection, being sacked 148 times over the past four seasons, despite participating in only 52 games. His absence in the last seven games of the 2023 season due to a wrist injury further exposed the team’s vulnerability, resulting in a mere four victories. To compete effectively with formidable division rivals such as the Browns and Ravens, bolstering the offensive line is imperative.

Addressing this concern in free agency, the Bengals are eyeing offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor from the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite having the sixth-most cap space in the league at a projected $61 million for the upcoming season, the team must exercise caution in their spending. Notable free agents Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins, along with Ja’Marr Chase, who has one year left on his contract, present financial considerations. Pro Football Focus estimates Eluemunor’s market value at two years, $7.25 million per year, making him a cost-effective option. With seven years of experience, Eluemunor demonstrated versatility, transitioning successfully to the right tackle position for the Raiders in the previous season.
