The actress Amy Jo Johnson from the original series pitched the idea for the new Green Ranger in the Power Rangers.

The idea for Kimberly and Tommy Oliver’s daughter to become the next generation Green Ranger in an impending comic book series started with a TV project that famous Pink Power Ranger actress Amy Jo Johnson pitched. Johnson’s new series explores an alternate reality in which Tommy and Kimberly have a kid named Olivia Hart, who is destined to don her late father’s suit, even if Tommy ends up with Kat in official canon.

In the alternate timeline depicted in Power Rangers: The Return, the original team never broke up; instead, they vanquished Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa, albeit it cost them so much that they split up. Now that Jason, the Red Ranger, has vanished after years of being a vigilante, the grownup Rangers band together to find him. Following Tommy’s passing, Pink Ranger Kimberly is raising her daughter Olivia. Along with promising “some twists and turns,” Johnson also said the plot would take “some unexpected avenues.”
