National Outlet Ranks Browns’ Deshaun Watson As Bottom Ten NFL QB

Deshaun Watson was once widely regarded as one of the NFL’s top 10 quarterbacks.

Watson has not been the same elite quarterback since being traded to the Browns over two years ago, since he has only played in 12 games since then. Following an 11-game suspension in 2022, Watson—his first season in Cleveland—played in six games, completing passes for 1,102 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions

This cleared the way for the 28-year-old to have a successful comeback season in 2023. However, a series of shoulder injuries cut short his season, as he missed the final seven weeks of play. Prior to suffering a glenoid fracture in his throwing shoulder, Watson passed for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions in his career.
Since Watson hasn’t participated in a full season since the Houston Texans in his early career, many analysts are skeptical that he can ever regain the caliber of quarterback he formerly possessed. That uncertainty extends until 2024.

In light of this, a number of publications will publish their quarterback ranking lists throughout the offseason. This week, The 33rd Team published one of the first rankings for 2024. Watson showed up on it.

As Watson enters the third year of a five-year contract with Cleveland in 2024, he has a lot to show. Although it’s unclear how his throwing shoulder fracture will affect his performance, he stated in his most recent QB Unplugged podcast update that he plans to start throwing the football later this spring.

The Browns were looking for an answer to their long-standing quarterback dilemma when they acquired Watson in March 2022. Unfortunate events have kept Watson from reaching his full potential with Cleveland thus far.
