When it comes to the Buccaneers, Joe always listens to the man who recruited assistant general manager Mike Greenberg.
Joe is alluding to former Tampa Bay General Manager Mark Dominik (2009-2013). Dominik is the SiriusXM NFL Radio draft guru and co-host.
On Friday, Dominik discussed the Bucs’ free agency scenario, stating that if the Bucs let Antoine Winfield Jr. go, 20 teams will certainly pursue him. Dominik also believed that Winfield is priced at the top of the safety market, around $22 million per season, which is likely $5 million more than the Bucs are willing to pay. “I have a feeling they’ve outpriced themselves,” Dominik remarked of the Winfield camp.
Interestingly, Dominik dismissed any reports that the Bucs and Mayfield have began conversations. Dominik stated that “negotiations have begun” with reporters, which is often nothing more than a phone call to schedule a meeting with an agent at the NFL Scouting Combine.
However, Dominik believes Team Glazer and general manager Jason Licht are considering a four-year, $160 million contract for Mayfield, with at least two seasons guaranteed. That’s the money the Giants gave their quarterback before the 2023 season.
“I think Tampa wants to do a three- or four-year deal and they want to keep it where that Daniel Jones number is,” Dominik told the Tampa Bay Times.
