The Tennessee Volunteers have hired former Washington Huskies co-defensive coordinator William Hinge to be their linebackers coach.
Tennessee head coachย Josh Heupelย filled both staffing vacancies in one afternoon. He hired Cincinnati running backs coachย DeโRail Simsย to fill the same role after previous running backs coach Jerry Mack left for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, heโs hired Washington co-defensive coordinatorย William Hingeย as Tennesseeโs linebackers coach, as first reported by VolQuestโsย Austin Price.
Hinge spent the past two seasons as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Washington Huskies, who won the Pac-12 Championship and made the national championship. Prior to his two years at Washington, he served in the same roles at Fresno State in 2022, and before that, he was at the University of Indiana for seven years in various roles on the defensive side of the football.
Washington had the No. 25 defense in the country in 2022 under Hingeโs leadership, a vast improvement from the year prior to his arrival. He now gets to coach in the SEC and coach SEC-level athletes, which is a challenge that he should embrace. Tennessee has now filled both of its coaching vacancies and has a full staff in place.
