It’s amazing how fast things have changed for the Cincinnati Bengals: only a few weeks prior, there was a great deal of fear that the franchise might lose a star player for nothing more than compensatory picks. All-Pro free safety Jessie Bates III left the Queen City for the Atlanta Falcons last season, and Cincinnati didn’t even pick up a third round pick as a result of the loss because of other free agency activity. Cincinnati has prioritised avoiding that kind of roster waste in the upcoming offseason above all else.
NFL Executives Think Highly of Wide Receiver for the Bengals
Tee Higgins, an outstanding wide receiver, has been subject to Cincinnati’s franchise tag for the previous several days, which has made headlines. One of the top players set to enter free agency this offseason was Higgins, and once he went, there was no assurance the organisation would be able to sign him again in 2024. That option is gone after the franchise tag since Higgins is committed to a $21.8 million, fully guaranteed contract that lasts for one year.
Even though Higgins has been a fantastic player, there’s a good chance the team only put a tag on their best player in order to get as much as possible out of a deal. With almost $44 million left over from Joe Burrow’s record-setting contract and the anticipated contract extension for quarterback Josh Burrow, the team has plenty of salary cap room this season. However, that amount will swiftly disappear in subsequent seasons.
