Michael Jones, better known as Virgil, the ever-present bodyguard for “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, has reportedly died.

Mark Charles III, a wrestling referee from Pennsylvania, posted the news on Facebook. The message, which includes tags to the accounts of various former and current pro wrestling personalities, reads:

My dear friends, it is with great sadness that I inform you that our beloved Michael Jones, also known as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones, and other names, has died.

Virgil died quietly in the hospital this morning, and I ask that you pray for him and his family.

May his memory be forever!

Jones started his wrestling career in the mid-1980s. As “Soul Train” Jones, he won the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship alongside Rocky Johnson, The Rock’s father. His major break came in 1987, when he joined WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation), when he was repackaged as Ted DiBiase’s bodyguard for his comeback to the promotion that year.

Virgil spent the next four years quietly brooding in the background as DiBiase’s muscle, watching his employer’s back and illegally assisting him during contests. Virgil occasionally joined DiBiase as a tag team partner.
