“In the end, all I’m doing is battling for a chance,” Thomas declared. “My goal is to demonstrate to teams that I can still contribute on the court, but above all, I want to be a teacher to these young guys.”
For some time now, 35-year-old Thomas has been trying to stick with an NBA franchise. He played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets during the course of the previous five seasons. This follows his great performance during a game with the Boston Celtics.
During his three years with Boston (2015-17), he averaged 24.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 1.0 steals a game, leading them to the playoffs all three years. The 2016-17 campaign was his best one, however, as he averaged a career-high 28.9 points. It was also that season when he scored a career-high 52 points against the Miami Heat. His efforts led the Celtics to the playoffs, getting as far as the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to the Cavaliers in five games. He never let up in the postseason, though, as he logged in 23.3 points per contest. He even recorded 53 points against the Wizards in Game 2 of the Semifinals.
Even though it’s doubtful if Thomas will step foot on a NBA court again, he definitely had an amazing career.
