Dickerson was selected by the Eagles from Alabama in the second round of the 2021 draft (at pick No. 37 overall). Dickerson qualified for a contract extension this summer after playing three seasons, and the Eagles wasted little time in signing him. Although DeVonta Smith, a first-round pick in 2021, will remain under team control through 2025 once they exercise his fifth-year option, an extension may potentially be in the works.
Dickerson was coming off an ACL tear when the Eagles selected him. He had a long history of injuries while attending Florida State and Alabama for his undergraduate career. However, his availability in the second round was unrelated to his performance. Dickerson has performed like a first-round prospect, which the Eagles acquired.
I believe you should take some chances for us. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman stated during the 2021 draft of Dickerson. “At times, it’s important to be proactive while pursuing skill, but you also need to consider other variables. Sidney, for example, aspires to be a really good player. Regretfully, given the events of this training camp, we were unable to assess him to the extent that we would have desired.
In this one, the Eagles excelled.
Dickerson has participated in 47 games with 46 starts over his first three seasons with the Eagles. In addition, he has established a true home at left guard alongside Jordan Mailata at left tackle and his close friend. Additionally, Mailata’s contract is valid through the 2025 campaign.
Dickerson has been a two-time Pro Bowl player in his two seasons as the Eagles’ full-time starting left guard and has shown significant improvement in 2023. Dickerson was listed by ProFootballFocus as the 17th best guard in the NFL overall last season. Dickerson allowed five sacks in 17 games in 2023, but only 38 total pressures.
When future Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce announced his retirement last week, the Eagles lost an icon. Cam Jurgens is anticipated to take Kelce’s place at that position, but Dickerson’s four-year contract extension gives offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland security.
Completing this contract with Dickerson now truly ticks off two iconic Eagles requirements. 1. Prior to their cornerstone players reaching free agency, they always attempt to lock them up. 2. The trenches
