The fact that this icon is only with us for a single year saddens me much, but it begs the question of whether his decision to come here will pay off in the form of landing the highest-ranked transfer or transfers each year. In addition to his accomplishment of bringing individuals he recruited into the league, Coach Barnes will now be able to demonstrate that he can also bring transfers into the league. Although Knecht scored a lot of points last season, many people—including our supporters—questioned whether he could maintain that level of performance at the top level of collegiate basketball. He is capable. Plus, he’s hitting the highest percentages in his career! I witnessed a lot of supporters—Vols fans included—say that Barnes would ruin his offensive ability and would coach it out of him
Tre Poteat has been high on Tennessee since getting a scholarship offer from the Vols more than six months ago, and his first trip to Knoxville in November made him like them even more. Since then, they have continued to climb even higher among the top contenders for him.
The Class of 2025 cornerback from Verona Area High School in Verona, Wis., said Tennessee now is in the “number-one spot” among the more than 20 schools pursuing him, and the Vols recently became the first team to finalize plans for hosting him on an official visit. He said he’s also scheduled to return to Tennessee in the coming weeks to attend one of the Vols’ spring practices.
