Fresh News: Breaking News: Boss celebrity admits he “negotiated” a £10 million contract for the Rangers star, but the talks fell through.

Ianis Hagi could have joined Russian giants Spartak Moscow for £10 million before moving to the Scottish Premiership with Rangers.

That is according to Gica Popescu, a former Romania international and brother-in-law of Hagi’s father, the renowned Gheorghe Hagi.

Spartak Moscow appears to blame Hagi Sr. for a breakdown in discussions with the now-Rangers-owned playmaker, who was previously with Viitorul Constanta.

The Russian company offered a cool £10 million. Hagi, however, would move to Belgium with KRC Genk for approximately a third of that sum, with his father believing that the Champions League football on offer in Limburg was more important than the huge wage boost the then-rising star would have earned.

Rangers’ ace might have transferred to Russia for £10 million. According to Popescu, Spartak Moscow offered Ianis 12 million euros. “I bargained it. Why wasn’t (the contract) completed? Gheorghe (Hagi) did not want it.

“Gheorghe picked a sporting project. Genk was in the Champions League, and (Hagis’ father) said, ‘I want him to play in the Champions League’.”

Spartak, on the other hand, were in no mood to give up so simply.

“On the other side was Spartak Moscow, who offered 12 million euros and did not stop there,” Popescu said. “When I told them that the transfer had fallen through, the club’s owner called and said, ‘I’m flying to Constanta. If money is a concern. I’m coming.
