Players from Celtic and Rangers make up eight of the squad from Parkhead and seven from the Ibrox side, making up the entire top 15.
The squad market valuations of Celtic and Rangers both decreased in a recent update, according to German website Transfermarkt, although the Glasgow teams are still top of the table in terms of most valued squads.
According to Stefan Bienkowski, lead content manager for Transfermarkt UK, “there’s little doubt that Rangers have improved the most since the last market value update, as Philippe Clement’s side have caught up with Brendan Rodgers’ stuttering champions.”
“But the truth is that both teams are going through a transitional phase as they try to rebuild their squads for the upcoming season and move on from their former managers.”
January signing for Celtic Transfermarkt’s table of the largest market gains in the division was led by Nicolas Kuhn and Rangers defender John Souttar. Yet none of the players place in the top 15.
The Hearts striker’s valuation increased by €750k to €2.5 million, although he still doesn’t rank among the top players in the Scottish Premiership MVP standings. Bojan Miovski’s stock increased as well.
Just €1 million ahead of Fabio Silva, Kyogo (€14 million) is still the best player on the Transfermarkt MVP list.
Reo Hatate is in fifth place despite his worth falling to €10m, while Matt O’Riley and Cameron Carter-Vickers are both in the top five at €13m.
An explanation from Transfermarkt defined their market values model as follows: “A variety of pricing models are taken into consideration when calculating the Transfermarkt market values.”
“The Transfermarkt community, whose members analyze and discuss player market valuations in great depth, is one important component.
Transfer fees are often not to be equated with the Transfermarkt market values.
“The objective is to estimate a player’s expected value in a free market, not to predict a price.
When estimating market values, situational factors as well as individual transfer modes are crucial. There is no algorithm in use at Transfermarkt.”
