The newest Laker to join the club this season, Spencer Dinwiddie, claims that expectations have changed even if most fans have found his tenure to be disappointing thus far. The seasoned point guard discussed his job with the Lakers and how he’s living up to what the Lakers need him to be right now in an interview with Dan Woike of the LA Times.
“There are moments when I feel like I’m being graded on a Spencer scale, sort of like Reggie Bullock.” On the Reggie Bullock
scale, however, I think I’m doing fairly well. In terms of Spencer, I’m certainly performing [bad]. However, I’m not in that Spencer situation either.
With the Brooklyn Nets, Spencer was formerly a nearly perfect All-Star, averaging 20.6 points per contest in the 2019–20 campaign. Spencer has not been able to score as effectively or with such terrible efficiency since that stretch of time.
Spencer has been particularly awful with the Lakers. Dinwiddie is averaging 4.6 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 rebounds per game on 35% shooting in 15 games played. Even if it doesn’t seem like his skills will improve, the Lakers might not need him to have a successful season.
