Gabe Vincent hasn’t played since December, but the Lakers haven’t stopped talking favorably about his recovery at every chance they get.
He was just approved for non-contact practice, and if his rehabilitation goes well, he might be able to play with the club on their current six-game road trip, as reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Since almost all news and updates have stated that Vincent intended to and appeared likely to return to the team this season, there hasn’t been much doubt about his return. In the last few weeks, he has been working out on the practice court, mostly in a non-contact setting. One of the largest obstacles left to overcome is conditioning.
Upon his comeback, he might still make the previously mentioned late March deadline and be ready for the Lakers’ postseason push. After undergoing knee surgery back in December, Vincent has had a lengthy recuperation period. One minor bright spot in an otherwise difficult scenario for all parties concerned is that rehab has gone according to plan, as seen by the continuous updates of all the good news.
Vincent’s presence again would be appreciated. He gives the Lakers an accomplished veteran who might be able to help with their bench issues and add another scoring guard to the club.
It’s difficult to gauge his potential value and how much more he’ll provide.
He averaged 5.7 points per game and shot 1.8% from three-point range in just five games this season. We have very little information on that sample size from so few games many months ago, but it’s the only one we have with Vincent wearing a Lakers outfit.
