After five NFL seasons, former Alabama running back Damien Harris is retiring because he has “found the strength to walk away from the game I love so much.”
Harris posted the following on his Instagram account on Monday night:
“One of the biggest privileges of my life for the last 20 years has been playing football.
“Just a small portion of what God has done in my life with the game of football is getting to represent the name on the back of my jersey on and off the field, competing at the highest level with and against the best competitors while winning championships, and being coached by two of the greatest head coaches of all time in Nick Saban and Bill Belichick.
The things that matter the most to me are the people I’ve met, the places I’ve gone and will continue to go, the experiences and memories I’ve created, and the influence I’ve been able to make so far.
“The quality of being thankful; readiness to express appreciation and repay kindness” is the definition of gratitude. I’m thankful today that I have the fortitude to stop playing the game I adore so much.
