updates on injuries: Cubs player David Peralta stated he won’t be fully recovered for Opening Day…read more

MESA, Arizona Despite starting the season in the minor leagues, outfielder David Peralta made an immediate impression on the Cubs during spring training. He is still working to strengthen his throwing program following offseason forearm surgery.

Manager Craig Counsell described veteran Peralta, who turned from pitcher to outfielder in independent league to save his career, as having “been in tougher spots than most of these guys have as players.” “There you have it—a wonderful tale of tenacity and never giving up on your goals.”

Peralta plans to complete his throwing program by April 8. On Thursday, he is expected to play outfield and throw to bases before eventually being called up to Triple-A Iowa. In six spring training games, he was the Cubs’ designated hitter and went 8-for-18 with three home runs.
