Detroit Perhaps the biggest college basketball stars since Caitlin Clark, Zach Edey and Dalton Knecht, will face off on the same court on Sunday with the opportunity to help their respective teams make the elusive Final Four trip.
In the only regional final with the top two seeds, second-seeded Tennessee (27-8) and top-seeded Purdue (32-4) will square off as the top two vote-getters on the men’s AP All-America team.
Coach Rick Barnes of the Vols stated on Saturday that “both teams really, they’re more than just the main event that you’re talking about.” “Those guys are deserving of every honor they have received.” However, they would both admit to you that they would give credit to their teammates for assisting them in completing their tasks.
When the Boilermakers and Volunteers faced off four months ago, the outcome was well-known to most teams that have attempted to contain the 300-pound, 7-foot-4 Edey.
Despite getting into foul trouble, Edey finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, one of his 27 double-doubles this season. In the Maui Invitational, he grabbed seven of Purdue’s 17 offensive rebounds to help the team defeat Tennessee by four points.
That win, one of a school-record 32 for Matt Painter’s team, won’t mean much if the Boilermakers don’t make history by making it to the Final Four for the first time since 1980, when Joe Barry Carroll was their standout player and Lee Rose was their coach.
