TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – At the Alabama Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the No. 24 Tennessee women’s tennis team defeated the No. 23 Alabama team 4-1. It was head coach Alison Ojeda’s eighth straight victory over the Tide on Sunday.
Ojeda said, “So proud of the team.” “We have a terrific team with an amazing set of girls, and we have had a really excellent season. The problem is that, even with the best of intentions, winning a match does not guarantee success. We entered the game with a specific degree of intensity and played the entire game today. The girls spent the entire day concentrating on their strengths, which is what we really wanted to do. Because Alabama put up a strong fight—as we all knew they would—I am proud of them. Alana [Wolfberg] persevered through doubles on every court we played on, which was a big assistance. We also desperately needed Leyla [Britez Risso] to play again, and she was right there in a match against a skilled player. We are extremely eager to return home and play in front of our home audience for the final four SEC games of the season, in addition to being incredibly excited for the girls.
Tennessee (13-6, 5-4 SEC) quickly established a 1-0 lead over Alabama (14-6, 5-5 SEC) by winning in places two and three in doubles play. Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko were defeated 6-1 by Esther Adeshina and Alana Wolfberg, ranked No. 49. The doubles point was secured by Lauren Anzalotta and Catherine Aulia, who defeated Ola Pitak and Klara Milicevic 6-2.
Anzalotta said, “I felt we had a great weekend.” “Playing away from home is incredibly difficult for us as a squad, so picking up just two victories was fantastic, especially for our confidence. That Catherine Aulia was able to seal the deal for us makes me very happy
