
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Every Minor League Baseball level began play on Friday night, officially kicking off the national baseball season. There are thirty-four former Tennessee Volunteers playing in the major and minor leagues this year from coast to coast.
A new generation of young talent emerging from the minor league systems is exemplified by Trey Lipscomb, who has been on fire since beginning his major league career. Of the 34 VFLs, twenty-two are in Double-A or higher and are attempting to make an immediate impression on big league teams.
Additionally, Garrett Crochet has been outstanding to begin the 2024 season, leading many on the south side of Chicago to believe they may have discovered their next star player.

Garrett Crochet, Chicago White Sox left-hander

has been brilliant for the White Sox so far this season, making two excellent starts: one on Opening Day against Detroit and the other on April 2 against Atlanta. In his most recent appearance against the Braves, Crochet gave up just three hits and a run while recording his first season victory with eight strikeouts.

made his Opening Day debut for the Chicago Cubs at catcher. In 2024, he will begin his thirteenth season in the Major Leagues.

received his big-league call-up on March 30 and has been a starter for the Nationals ever since, gaining popularity every day. In his five games on The Show, Lipscomb has compiled two multi-hit contests and smacked a home run in his second professional game. His excellent defense was in play.
On March 30, in his very first MLB game, he put on a show as he made an incredible on-the-run throw to seal a 7-6 victory against Cincinnati.
Washington Nationals 3B Nick Senzel is listed as 15 days injured.
was scheduled to open the Nationals season at third base, but a fractured thumb kept him off the starting lineup. On December 12, 2023, Senzel agreed to a free-agent contract with Washington.
