Teams such as the Cleveland Browns are inviting candidates to pre-draft visits. This is an exploration of what teams hope to gain from these discussions, as well as their possible applications.

With the NFL Draft just weeks away, hopefuls are making pre-draft visits to organizations such as the Cleveland Browns. Aside from prospects within a specified radius brought in for a designated local day, each team has 30 possibilities to have a player visit the team’s offices.

Teams get the opportunity to interact with players during All-Star games such as the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, as well as at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. However, at the All-Star games, they mostly obtain information from them, such as their phone number, agent if they have one, and some background information, so they do not have much time to get to know them.

At the combine, teams are more prepared to talk with prospects, but there is a finite amount of time, only 18 minutes. They can come up with questions that help them get a feel for them, but it can also be an opportunity to challenge them and, in some cases, intentionally try to get a reaction.

When it was revealed, Ireland was heavily condemned for doing so in order to force Bryant out of his comfort zone. Because these combine sessions are so short, a player can possibly perform an act. Agents train these guys on how to answer questions and act in order to convey the message that they believe would get them drafted earlier. Teams want to cut through it and discover who the player genuinely is.

There are also possibilities who are nervous or uncomfortable. Whether they take some time to open up or are just overwhelmed by the combine procedure, a team does not want to miss out on a player because they were given the wrong impression.
