The 32 first-round selections in the 2024 NFL Draft will be selected in Detroit on April 25. Teams have selected 128 prospects who attended Alabama high schools and universities in the first round of the 88 NFL drafts, plus another 29 prospects who were not selected in the first round but were nonetheless chosen in the first 32 picks. In order to mark the countdown to the draft, AL.com is showcasing the players with Alabama football ancestry selected in the first 32 selections.

 

One of the six prospects chosen at No. 12 in an NFL Draft who played at Alabama high schools and colleges is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But that player has been known for almost 60 years as Broadway Joe, not Gateway Arch Joe.

The New York Giants selected Auburn running back Tucker Frederickson as the first pick in the 1965 NFL Draft, which included Alabama quarterback Joe Namath as the 12th pick. The Chicago Bears selected Kansas running back Gayle Sayers and Illinois linebacker Dick Butkus at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, in back-to-back Pro Football Hall of Fame draft selections.

Namath was the second quarterback selected in 1965 by the St. Louis Cardinals, following the selection of Indiana fullback Tom Nowatzke by the Detroit Lions at No. 11. QB Craig Morton of California was selected by the Dallas Cowboys at No. 5.
