No. 4/4, Knoxville, Tenn. Against LSU in Knoxville, Tennessee won 7 straight games in a fierce 3-1 triumph on Saturday in front of a record 6,155 spectators at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

With the victory and another strong outing from junior pitcher Drew Beam, the Vols moved to 5-1 on the season. The junior righthander gave up just one unearned run in 6.2 innings of work while scattering eight hits and striking out five batters. He was also able to escape trouble multiple times.

Beam buckled down and struck out the next two batters before establishing a one-run lead in the second inning, with runners on second and third with no outs and the Tigers having already scored a run.

Luke Holman, the starter for LSU, put on a fantastic performance of his own, pitching a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Blake Burke’s single with one out ignited the Vols’ comeback.

After Dylan Dreiling reached base on the first pitch he saw from reliever Griffin Herring, he delivered the biggest hit of the game, a two-run single into right-center field, putting UT ahead 2-1. Billy Amick followed with a double to left field to put two runners in scoring position.

Despite only giving up two hits in his 5.2 innings of work, Holman was forced to accept the loss and dropped to 6-2 on the season.

Despite outhitting the Vols 9-5, the Tigers (22-14, 3-11 SEC) managed just one extra-base hit, a leadoff double by Michael Braswell III in the second inning.

DATA FOR THE GAME: With 6,155 attendance on Saturday, it was the first time over 6,000 had been at a program. Prior to this season, Tennessee’s single-game attendance record of 5,086 was already surpassed.
