Naturally, the 2024 NFL Draft will take place in Detroit from April 25–27, complete with all the fanfare and fandangle. Some supporters believed—and still believe—that the Lions won’t trade out of the first round, as if the NFL would force them to do so. However, utilizing that kind of narrative is just not a good foundation for a draft approach.
To be quite honest, there is an equal chance that Lions general manager Brad Holmes will choose to move down from selection No. 29 as there is to move up. Teams frequently attempt to trade up to select a quarterback who has slid in the first round with the goal of obtaining contract control over the fifth-year option.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic has released a 7-round mock draft (subscription required) following the publication of his pre-draft prospect guide, aptly named “The Beast”.
Lions, in a seven-round mock draft, do what fans would most likely oppose.
In his most recent mock, Brugler has the Lions trading out of the first round, which may seem apparent at this time. The Lions receive selections 44 and 77, while the Las Vegas Raiders advance to choose No. 29 in order to select Washington quarterback Michael Penix. That leaves Detroit with a nice-looking haul in Brugler’s mock, but it doesn’t do much to close a big deficit they have in picks between the third and fifth rounds.
In February, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah assigned Frazier to the Lions in a mock draft; last week, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager repeated the move.
Before switching to center, Frazier played left guard in his collegiate career. As a rookie, he might provide instant depth behind all three interior offensive line starters before being set up to take the field at some point in 2025.
Pick No. 61: Florida State’s Braden Fiske, a DT
Fiske’s excellent pre-draft performance has generated some talk, but he’ll be gone before this pick. However, the Lions’ interior defensive line could use one more player.
Pick 73: Washington wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk
The Lions were on ESPN’s Field Yates.
