Monroe Beard, a Tennessee State linebacker, is preparing to transfer following a great season in Nashville. The Chattanooga, TN native is using the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in his scholastic career, which began in 2018. Beard had a tremendous season at Tennessee State, recording 95 tackles in just nine games, including four for loss. This featured five consecutive games with 11 or more total tackles, as well as 33 tackles in two games versus UT Martin and Kennesaw State. He set a TSU single-game tackle record with 19 against UT Martin on September 30 and was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance. Beard was chosen the 2023 All Big South-OVC First Team Defense after the season.
Monroe Beard began his college career at UAPB in 2018 and redshirted. Beard had an impact as a redshirt freshman, recording 37 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, and two pass breakups. He concluded his career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 138 total tackles, including a (then) career-high 78 tackles (eight and a half tackles for loss) and five sacks in the autumn of 2021. Beard will now try his luck in the NCAA transfer portal, leaving a large vacuum at Tennessee State.
