NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional Championship-Tennessee vs Purdue

According to KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, the Kentucky Wildcats are keeping an eye on a familiar face as Jonas Aidoo, a transfer from the Tennessee Volunteers, has been contacted by Mark Pope’s staff.

Aidoo, a native of Durham, North Carolina, played for the Vols for the previous three seasons, more than doubling his scoring total each time. With an average of 11.4 points per game last season, Aidoo made his debut as a full-time starter. In addition, he pulls down 7.3 rebounds per game on average, nearly doubling his totals annually.

Aidoo finished with 22 points, 19 rebounds, and eight (!) blocks in two games against Kentucky.

He would be a great addition to the squad at 6-foot-11, especially since he hit 51.5% from the field the previous year. His range is restricted on

his shot, but his efficiency is key. He could be a prime target for Pope’s staff moving forward, but it already appears he’s trending toward another school.

Recruitment analyst Travis Branham of 247 Sports has already recorded a pick in favor of the Baylor Bears, who are also in the running for Duke guard Jeremy Roach, a transfer that Kentucky has also sought.

It will be difficult for Pope to assemble his team during his first season in Lexington because just a handful players are guaranteed spots on the 2024–25 roster following the departure of longtime head coach John Calipari to Arkansas.
