GA – ST. SIMONS ISLAND At the SEC Championships, the seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is in fifth place after the first round.
The Vols shot 3-under as a team on Wednesday and trail Texas A&M going into Thursday’s first-round match.
Bruce Murphy, Jake Hall, and Bryce Lewis gave UT their first round 1-under 69 scores, and they are currently tied for 18th going into the second round.
Lewis started round one at 1-over through 14 holes and finished his final four at 2-under to end the round below par.
Hall’s round included nine holes in which he had no bogeys.
Murphy began his round two over par in his opening four holes and went on to score four birdies en route to a 69.
Day one totals were even-par for Evan Woosley-Reed, who gave the Vols their last counting round lead with a 1-under 34 after the turn. The native of Shelbyville, Tennessee, is tied for 27th place going into the second round.
Lance Simpson scored a 5-over 75 in the opening round and is tied for 59th place going into the second round of stroke play.
