Keeping your players is the first step in the recruitment process in today’s collegiate sports. The players on their roster need to be persuaded to stay and not use the transfer site by coaches every year. Athletes and players from high schools who have logged into the transfer portal must be recruited at the same time.

When it comes to the recruiting trail, Lady Vols basketball coach Kim Caldwell appears to be off to a terrific start in every way. It has been announced by some players that they will be returning without going via the portal.

Tess Darby and Jewel Spear have declared that they will be back for the upcoming season, even with the new coach. When a head coach changes, athletes sometimes at least check out the portal in this new era of collegiate athletics, but Caldwell has done an excellent job of keeping her players close to home.

For the Lady Vols in the previous season, those two players averaged 18.3 points and 7.8 rebounds a game. Spear more than doubled Darby’s output in the previous season, but it’s a big step forward for momentum to have two veterans back for a final season.
