Tennessee has a new basketball prospect in the class of 2024. Ben Hammond, who recently resigned from his position as governor of Rhode Island, will visit Tennessee on Monday.
347Sports rates the 5-11 point guard as a three-star recruit. His class rank is 195th overall, and he is from Fairfax, Virginia. Since Hammond reopened recruiting, a number of schools have reportedly gotten in touch, including Penn State, Iowa, Providence, Virginia Tech, Butler, and several others.
At the Nike Peach Jam last summer, Hammond was voted “best teammate” for his role in leading his team to victory.
Despite his small stature, the Rhode Island recruit proved during the tournament that he is tough as nails and brings winning intangibles to the floor.
Hammond is a fierce competitor with excellent sense of timing. Because of Hammond’s ball pressure, this constantly unnerves his guy defensively. He is an offensive floor general who positions everyone correctly.
It sounds a lot like Zeigler Zakai. Zeigler gained notoriety at Peach Jam as well, and Tennessee attacked right after. Zeigler is the team’s undeniable leader as he approaches his senior year. Despite his 5-9 frame, he was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year this past season. It’s not too difficult to see the similarities here.
After adding three transfers and four-star prep guard Bishop Boswell, Tennessee is down to three scholarships.
