
Birmingham, Alabama – Taylor Pannell of Tennessee has been chosen as the SEC Freshman of the Week after an outstanding final weekend of the regular season.
During their sweeping of No. 24 Kentucky, the redshirt freshman drove the Lady Vols’ offense, going 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate.
Her last long ball of the weekend came on Saturday in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving UT a walk-off win and a series sweep. She hit a home run in each game. With an OPS of 1.769 versus the Wildcats, Pannell had three games with three RBI.
The Milan, Illinois native’s first career weekly honor is this one, and it’s the sixth a Lady Vol has won this softball season.
This past weekend, Pannell’s performance helped the Lady Vols win their second consecutive SEC regular season championship. Tennessee will play its opening game on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. ET in the 2024 SEC Softball Tournament. Tennessee is slated to start as the top overall seed.
