AWARENESS IN THE PRESENCE OF BELLI AND SEIYA: Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki were not in the Cubs starting lineup for the first time in 14 games last night. The Cubs went 7-6 and slashed.219/.299/.352 for an OPS of.651 in the 13 games without either. They are 15-9 and have slashed.248/.328/.417 with Bellinger, Suzuki, or both playing, for an OPS of.745—nearly 100 points higher. The Cubs have averaged 5.38 runs per game while both players are active; when neither is, it is 3.46. (Source: JohnW53 of BCB)
STARTERS, VERY IMPRESSIVE: Cubs starting pitchers have a 2.51 ERA (35 earned runs in 125⅓ innings) since April 14.
big leagues. At 15-6, the Phillies are the only team that is superior.
TAKING OFF WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Cody Bellinger is batting during a nine-game hitting streak.13-for-34, 382/.447/.794 with four home runs, eight RBI, and a triple. Bellinger saw 27 pitches in his four at-bats on Tuesday night (3-for-4, including a home shot).
Wesneski has been the most impressive, following a rocky start in ’23. He acknowledged that he “did not deserve to make the team” and that “I was not in a good head space” throughout spring training. He’s pitching like he used to now that he has regained his confidence. After being taken out on Friday, he left to a standing ovation.
Wesneski appears to have discovered that confidence, whatever it takes.
Last season, on April 27 at Wrigley Field, he made one start against the Padres and gave up one run in five innings. We should take that this afternoon, I believe.
Dylan Cease has excelled thus far in this season. This includes a start on April 10 in San Diego against the Cubs, where he gave up two unearned runs in five innings. Mike
In his two career starts at Wrigley Field, Cease has a 4.09 ERA with 11 innings pitched, nine hits, six walks, and five runs allowed. Although he has improved a little bit this season when it comes to walks, the Cubs can still sit him out and try to increase his pitch total. In his seven starts so far in 2024, he has already thrown more than 100 pitches four times.

The process for the 2024 Game Thread will be the same as it was last year—that is, it will resemble Spring Training.
Two hours before kickoff (or, in the case of some early-morning games that follow night games, ninety minutes prior), you can find the game preview posted separately on the main website.
The preview will also appear in a StoryStream named “Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of week/date) game threads” that posts on the home page simultaneously. It will have all of the posts about that specific game, including the First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread, as well as the recap when it’s published. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post.
