On Tuesday morning, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. The Bills did not reveal the deal’s financial parameters, although several media sources claimed it might be worth up to $4.5 million. In February, the Chiefs cut Valdes-Scantling to clear a $12 million salary cap.
After Gabe Davis signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Bills traded star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, the team is making an effort to revamp their wide receiver group.
With the first pick of the second round in the NFL draft in April, Buffalo selected Keon Coleman, a wide receiver from Florida State. They also signed Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, and Quintez Cephus as free agents. In Super Bowl LVIII, the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime thanks to a touchdown pass from two-time Super Bowl champion Valdes-Scantling.
Aldes-Scantling, 29, played in 33 regular season games (21 starts) with Kansas City in 2022–2023 and has 63 receptions for 1,002 yards and three touchdowns. During his four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, the 2018 fifth-round pick caught 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns in 59 games (39 starts).
