Tristan Sailor and Benjamin Te Kura will both be out for protracted periods of time, which is an unwelcome blow to the Brisbane Broncos’ depth ahead of the State of Origin period.
In a statement released by the team, Broncos head of performance Dave Ballard stated, “Billy suffered a knock on it against the Eels on Friday night after picking up a wrist ligament strain against the Tigers a few weeks ago.
“He is making a good recovery, but we’ll be cautious and he won’t be playing this week. He has an opportunity to play the next week, but our decisions will be based on how well he practices.”
Sailor, on the other hand, needs surgery because of a high ankle sprain.
“Tristan had a high ankle sprain while playing for Souths Logan in the same game as Ben, which will sideline him for four to six weeks. This week, he will have surgery, and after that, he will begin his recovery program.
Sailor’s recuperation period will keep him out of the game until at least Round 14, and maybe even past Origin 2. The Broncos are fortunate to have byes before both Origin 1 and 2, but if Walsh is unable to back up, Sailor won’t be available to take his place after either game.
Sailor should be ready to play when Brisbane hosts the St. George Illawarra Dragons in the weeks leading up to Origin 3.
Te Kura, on the other hand, will be out for at least four months due to a “serious” Lisfranc injury to his foot.
“Over the weekend, Ben was playing for South Logan Magpies in the HostPlus Cup when he sustained a significant injury to his Lisfranc joint. He will need surgery in the coming days. Ballard stated, “He will take a minimum of four months to recuperate, and the club will offer him all the necessary assistance throughout his rehab process.
The towering teenage forward’s season is all but over due to the injury; he will now concentrate on earning regular playing time in the first grade by 2025.
