
Since Grant Williams in 2019, Knecht is the first member of Tennessee’s men’s basketball team to be awarded the accolade. Gordon Sargent, a golfer for Vanderbilt, and he split the credit.
In 2023–24, Knecht, a fifth-year guard, shot 45.8 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.2 percent from the charity line while averaging 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
Knecht received unanimous First Team All-America honors after being named the SEC Player of the Year, the Riley Wallace Award winner (best transfer), and the Julius Erving Small Award nominee (best small forward).

The product of Thornton, Colorado, scored more than 35 points six times in 2023–24, setting a program single-season record and leading all Division I players in the country in scoring. Knecht contributed to the Volunteers’ 27-9 (14-4 SEC) record, their program’s second Elite Eight bid, and their complete SEC regular season championship.
