So Amazing: In the final midweek game, the Vols easily defeat Belmont 10-0.

In the final midweek game of the season, Tennessee’s offense produced three multi-run innings, including three home runs in the sixth, while Tony Vitello employed five different pitchers to lead the Vols to a 10-0 victory over Belmont by run rule.

With a five-run single in the bottom of the first, the bats made an early impression on the game. Billy Amick doubled Christian Moore home after he reached on an error five pitches into the game.

Dean Curley scored the last run of the inning after the third baseman threw a throw that allowed Ensley to score, which was Belmont’s second error of the opening period.

Dylan Despite a Curley error during the first at-bat of the half inning, Loy faced the minimum number of hitters in the second inning after starting the game and giving up a single and a walk without allowing a run to score. To conclude the inning, Loy struck out the third man and got the second hitter to go into a double play.

The Pigeon Forge freshman pitched into the third inning, striking out the first hitter he saw before allowing the next man up to single. Vitello departed.

him in to get one more out — a fly-out to right — before replacing Loy with JJ Garcia. After the man on first stole second and third, Garcia got the final out on a full-count ground ball, thanks in part to a strong play deep in the hole at short by Curley.

 

After two walks, Dreiling led off the third inning with a double on a 0–2 count. Cannon Peebles then scored a run with a sac fly to left after two more walks. Two pitches later, Colby Backus singled to right, scoring Dreiling for his first RBI of the game. Even though Tennessee left two runners on base, the score was 7-0 after three innings.

In the sixth inning, Backus and Christian Moore opened the bottom half with consecutive home runs, setting off another offensive frenzy. Backus took the first pitch he saw in right field, which was 357 feet over the fence:

In the end, JJ Garcia recorded his third victory of the year after throwing 1.1 innings, walking one and striking out one.

In his one inning, rookie lefty Matthew Dallas struck out three batters while giving up only one hit. According to the broadcast, Marcus Phillips hit the radar gun at least 98 mph and struck out two in his one inning.

South Carolina visits Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Thursday to begin the Vols’ last weekend series of the regular season. The time of the first pitch is 6:30 PM EST.
