How Tennessee softball continued home postseason dominance…see more

The NCAA Tournament Regional brackets were revealed by ESPN on Sunday night, and as many had anticipated, the Sooners will host at Love’s Field. The one issue that remained was whether or not OU will upset top-seeded Texas to claim the No. 1 seed. However, the committee placed OU as No. 2 overall while Texas remained at the top, even though OU had won the Big 12 Championship. The Sooners haven’t been the top overall seed since 2018 for the first time.
The Sooners (49-6) will begin the tournament on Friday at 7 p.m. against Cleveland State (22-24). Additionally, OU’s Norman Regional includes Boston (52-4-1) and Oregon (28-19).
The Sooners have appeared in seven consecutive Women’s College World Series and have not lost a regional since 2019. The Sooners have won three straight national titles there. OU has triumphed in 13 straight regionals.
The Women’s College World Series begins on May 30 while the NCAA Regionals run from May 17 to May 19. The Super Regionals are scheduled for May 23–25.
Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso was questioned about whether she thought the Sooners had performed well enough to secure the top seed shortly after the Sooners defeated Texas to win their eighth Big 12 Tournament title.
Right now, I believe it’s already written,” Gasso stated. “I’m not sure. We put on a terrific show, so hopefully people watched it. It would be great if we could take the top spot. At this point, it really doesn’t matter. We should be content if we place among the top three or four, in my opinion.”
It will be the Sooners’ first regional hosted at Love’s Field. This season saw the introduction of Love’s Field. Gasso anticipates seeing record-breaking crowds all weekend long.
“Craziness,” stated Gasso, “is enjoyable. We prefer to play in front of huge crowds, so I dunno. The objective is to give it our all at Love’s Field, which I don’t think we’ve done yet, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction.
