Cooper Flagg of Duke basketball and UConn will face one other in the Final Four, according to Dan Hurley.

Countdown to Craziness; Duke basketball freshman standout Cooper Flagg

After declining the Los Angeles Lakers’ offer of head coaching to stay at UConn, Dan Hurley embarked on his media tour on Thursday, subtly mocking the Duke basketball program in the process.

Hurley was debating between the Lakers and Huskies on Saturday night when he, his wife, and assistant coach Luke Murray of UConn went to the Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden. The two-time National Champion linked his concert attendance to Cooper Flagg’s recruitment, which sparked a lot of discussion on social media.

“We had to cancel going to a Billy Joel concert last September to accommodate Cooper [Flagg], Kelly [Flagg], and his family for an official visit,” Hurley said.

stated on Colin Cowherd’s show The Herd.

“As big of a moment it was in my career to make a huge decision [between UConn and the Lakers], I was not missing Billy Joel in one of his last concerts at The Garden.”

Hurley made his decision to stay in college rather than go straight to the NBA public shortly after the concert.

But before he told his little anecdote about the Piano Man, Hurley gave Cooper Flagg and the Blue Devils a little shove, adding, “I appreciate you, Cooper. I wish you an amazing year. Next year, I hope to defeat you in the Final Four.”

This season, Flagg and the Blue Devils hope to win a championship, while the Huskies aim to achieve an unprecedented feat of winning three straight titles.

The two programs have not met since the 2014 season and its previous matchup in the NCAA Tournament was in the 2004 Final Four, which was won by UConn. Duke has won the last two encounters versus the Huskies.
