12th in the world Following his knee injury, Taylor Fritz admits that Novak Djokovic sent him a message. The record 24-time Grand Slam champion wanted to ask the American some questions because he had experienced a similar injury a few years prior.
On June 3, Djokovic defeated Francisco Cerundolo in the round of 16 of the French Open in five sets. During the match, Djokovic hurt his knee, which was subsequently determined to be a meniscus tear. Following the news, the 37-year-old knew exactly what to do. He withdrew from his quarterfinal match at the French Open and underwent emergency surgery to fix the injury to his knee.
But while the surgery was successful, the concerns were still there that Djokovic would not be ready to play Wimbledon, which starts on July 1st.
In 2021, 26-year-old Fritz also tore his knee meniscus at Roland Garris but still managed to compete at Wimbledon that summer and win two matches before losing in the third round. And since Fritz was in a similar position a couple of years ago, Djokovic felt the American was the person who could maybe give him some answers.
Fritz had surgery to repair the damage to his knee, and he was motivated to return to playing at The All England Club. As previously said, Fritz was able to accomplish his goal and went on to defeat Steve Johnson and Brandon Nakashima before falling to Alexander Zverev in the third round.Fritz’s only goals going into Wimbledon in 2021 were to maintain his health and possibly pick up a few victories. However, considering Djokovic consistently attends tournaments with the intention of taking home the trophy, it most definitely wouldn’t be the Serb’s objective.Fritz is aware that Djokovic is capable of competing in Wimbledon, but he was unable to respond when asked if he would do so.
