SALINA, Kan. — In advance of the ninth week of the Arena Football League, the Salina Liberty were assigned a non-league replacement opponent.
The Liberty made the announcement late on Wednesday that they will be playing on Saturday in the American Indoor Football League versus the Cedar Rapids River Kings. The West Texas Desert Hawks, whose operations were halted for unclear reasons, were initially supposed to be hosted by the franchise.
With a 2-0 forfeit victory, the Liberty improved to 6-2 on the season and guaranteed a postseason spot.
General Manager Sam Sellers stated that they looked into hosting the Nashville Kats instead during an interview on the “Coach O’ Show,” but the team is now on its second consecutive bye week.
You got [Kats players] all over the country so trying to get them back together and to Salina, logistically its a tall order especially in three days,” Sellers said.
The Arena Football League and the West Texas Desert Hawks have yet to publicly address the situation.
The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
