The best big men in the NBA draft are headlined by French teenager Alexandre Sarr and UConn’s Donovan Clingan…
Potential starters and important role players are more prevalent in this year’s NBA draft than future stars without a doubt. That becomes clear when you consider the big men’s headline chances.
With his length and defensive ability, French youngster Alexandre Sarr might be the first pick overall—two major factors that have helped him top the AP’s NBA mock draft three times. As a rim-protecting player, Donovan Clingan of the two-time defending national champion UConn team will probably be selected highly as well.
Just how soon any will be prepared for a starting position in the league, especially on offense, is a mystery.
Here are a few of the best players for the role:
France’s Alexandre Sarr
STRENGTHS: The 7-footer’s quickness, mobility, and length provide a lot of upside at both ends of the court, whether he’s running the rim off pick-and-rolls for lobs on offense or protecting the rim as a versatile defender. Sarr, 19, played two seasons with the Overtime Elite growth program for elite talents in the United States before playing his last season as a member of the National Basketball League’s “Next Stars” program with Perth, an Australian basketball league. Despite playing an average of just 17.3 minutes, he tied for second place there with an average of 1.5 blocks.
