NBA rumors: Kings were 'close' to Lauri Markkanen trade with Jazz

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and other more well-known teams have naturally dominated headlines, but the Sacramento Kings, under the direction of point guard De’Aaron Fox, are among the most intriguing teams in the NBA right now. Fox had a fantastic season in 2023–24, but the Kings, who had made their first postseason appearance in almost ten years, generally regressed and struggled against the New Orleans Pelicans in the Play-In round this year.

Of course, this begs the issue of whether the Kings would throw everything on the line in an effort to stay competitive in the Western Conference playoff picture this offseason, and the answer has been a resounding “no” up to this point. But that doesn’t imply that since their season ended, the Kings haven’t made an effort to close a deal with a well-known player.

I’m not allowed to reveal any more, but calls that were placed to individuals in the NBA would have shown that discussions there were genuine.

With his unique combination of size and shooting ability, Markkanen is one of the more well-known names still available on the trade market at this time. He has improved his game tremendously since joining the Utah Jazz in the 2022 offseason after being moved from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
