Danny Mendick Is Assigned To The White Sox…
After hearing about the signing of infielder Nick Senzel last night, the White Sox made the announcement. They assigned infielder Danny Mendick to a different position to make place for Senzel. Additionally, they optioned infielder Lenyn Sosa, freeing up a spot on the roster. Yoán Moncada may fill that position, according to James Fegan of Sox Machine, albeit that hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
The 30-year-old Mendick joined the Sox in late April after agreeing to a minor league contract. He has stepped up to the plate 141 times in 47 games for the Sox. Regretfully, his batting line this year is just.197/.243/.318. He has walked at a 4.3% clip and struck out in 24.8% of his plate appearances.
He is in his sixth major league season in a row, and the majority of his offensive production is hardly spectacular. In 2022, he showed some impressive flashes of brilliance, slashing.289/.343/.443, but a torn ACL ended his season after just 31 games. In 656 career plate appearances, he has a batting line of.232/.286/.346 and a 76 wRC+ overall.
Now that he has been forced off Chicago’s roster, they will have some time to consider their options, including trying to pass Mendick or making a trade. The waiver process takes 48 hours, but DFA limbo can continue up to a week, thus any chance of a deal needs to be investigated within the next five days. Nevertheless, given Mendick’s performance
