Tennessee autumn camp clashes: The depth of the offensive line is still a concern

Tennessee football camp battles: Offensive line depth remains a question - Rocky Top Talk

Going into the fall season, there is much to appreciate about this Tennessee football team. The arrow in Knoxville is pointing in the right direction thanks to a strong defensive front, a developing Nico Iamaleava, and an experienced offensive line.

But what would happen, exactly, if the Volunteers suffered a pair of injuries to their offensive line? It is almost a given that the injury bug would strike eventually. What’s left behind the seasoned group of Cooper Mays, Javontez Spraggins, John Campbell, Lance Heard, Andrej Karic, and Jackson Lampley, even though they seem fantastic on paper?

To be honest, that doesn’t seem like a lot of proven depth. With Mays, Spraggins, Campbell, and Lampley, Tennessee is expected to have a lot of change even in 2025.

More importantly, a few of these men need to be prepared for action this year. Dayne Davis, an experienced player, will play a significant depth role, but these are players we haven’t seen much of yet. Men like Masai Reddick, Larry Johnson, Ayden Bussell, Vysen Lang, and even the actual freshmen who are just starting the program.

In the spring, Glen Elarbee, the offensive line coach for Tennessee, remarked, “That’s the silver lining—we’re building the depth.” “The young men are receiving an enormous amount of attention and repetitions. I warned them that there would likely be some gloomy moments here for the next day before the day in pads.

three weeks. It seems as though there is hope for the future. It will make you stronger. Our depth will be exactly where you want it come fall camp, and we will be a stronger team as a result.

Dayne Davis looks to be playing a big part this autumn, which makes perfect sense. He has been a member of the program for some time and is capable of filling several different front-line roles for Elarbee.
